COMPETITION! WIN a Vintage/Alternative Photoshoot!

March 7, 2014

Hello lovely followers!

This week I have an exciting competition for you all. One lucky winner will receive a voucher for a FREE vintage/alternative photoshoot with the fabulous Simon from Alt Studio.

I first became aware of Alt Studio when I saw these amazing photos of the gorgeous Rachael from Marry Me Ink.

She looked so hot and vibrant and her account of the day made it all sound like such a fun experience!

These are a few of my favourite photos from Simon’s portfolio – you can have whichever style you want , though I really like the moody, retro style Simon captures here.

Such beautiful images! I was thrilled to be able to get the full Alt Studio treatment myself back on a rainy December day last year.

Hopping aboard a train to Manchester, I crossed the country to meet Simon and his team with a suitcase packed full of goodies (and busting at the seams I might add!).

Arriving at the studio, we went through the outfits and accessories I’d chosen, then it was straight into hair and make up for a 50s pin up look.

I must admit, I was extremely nervous about the photo shoot – I hadn’t done anything like this before and have a ‘rabbit caught in the headlights’ go-to stare which seems to happen every time someone points a camera at me, but Simon put me totally at ease, cranked up the new Bowie album in the background and I felt totally relaxed and able to take direction from Simon to achieve the best possible results.

A few outfit changes and a lot of laughs later, it was suddenly 5pm and time for me to head home. I’d had the most amazing day, felt like a starlet with my glamorous makeover and suddenly had a confidence that I didn’t have when I arrived! I urge anyone thinking of having a photo shoot to visit Alt Studio, as Simon is so down to earth and makes you feel fabulous about yourself, creating the most beautiful images and making you feel and look like a star! I thought I’d share a couple of my images – I’m so thrilled with them and Simon worked HARD to get these from me as I was so nervous!

Real Wedding Inspiration: Adding a Pop of Personality to your Wedding Styling

February 17, 2014

Well hello there! It’s been a little while since I wrote on the blog as I was so busy I never seemed to find time. This year, I’ve decided to try to remedy that!

This week is all about creating a wedding theme which is right for you.  There are a lot of styles which you may not feel you quite fit into – perhaps you’re not a floral/vintage kind of couple and want to inject a little of your own personalities into  your wedding to be sure it feels personal on the day?

I created the wedding stationery for Emma (a beautiful, rockabilly bride to be) and James (a cool guitarist for a rock band). Their wedding encompassed their personalities perfectly, combining elements of Emma’s love of rockabilly and James’ nods to his work as a musician. Photos by Natalie Cadman Photography (unless otherwise stated).

The fantastic setting for the day, Glemham Hall.

The happy couple – Emma wearing  the most beautiful, original 1950s lace gown from Camden market, for the bargain price of £40! She customised it with red beads.

A gal of many talents, the bride also made the bouquets, including a large, trailing button bouquet.

There were so many fun elements to this day mixed with beautiful styling, to create a really unique and personalised wedding, including pom poms, band covers for table names and jagermeister favours!

The bride wore Vivienne Westwood shoes for the ceremony, then kicked them off and opted for bright red Converse at the reception (the groom wore black Converse).

Being a tattooed bride and groom, this also featured on their wedding  stationery, but was kept soft with lace elements.

Double sided favour tags with tattoo styling and black lace embellishment.

The bride and groom had a candy bar with lots of pretty, sweet filled jars. Elle Is For Love made the signage and sweetie bags to continue the theme.

The styling was continued throughout their stationery, with the rock and roll/tattoo theme ablaze on their framed table plan. The button features tied in with the bride’s bouquet.

They chose to use guitars as their guest book for everyone to sign (including guest book signs courtesy of Elle Is For Love), which now hang on their lounge walls! A great memento!

Speaking of Crumb Bespoke Cakes, Anmar made the most fantastic and impressive cake for Emma and James! Incorporating lace, tattoo style roses and swallows and complete with Choccywoccydoodah white chocolate skull topper!

A lot of fun was had in their home made photo booth! Family and friends making good use of it! I made a matching sign for the photo booth (lower photo, courtesy of Crumb Bespoke Cakes)

It was still very much a family day, with her gorgeous daughter, Jess, in  her own white lace dress.

The day was filled with love and laughter and at the heart were two individuals in love.

I think you’ll agree, this wedding is a great reflection of this couple and works really well to show  how you can make your wedding, your way, whatever your style or budget.

Photography 101 (part deux)

August 16, 2012

Hello! It’s been a while since I last posted, and I can only apologise. Wedding season has been in full swing and I’ve been so busy with stationery and graphic design work for most of this year that my poor little blog has been neglected!

Yesterday I attended a photography workshop in Leeds hosted by Phoebe from So You’re Getting Married Blog and taught by Jaye from Tux & Tales Photography.

Photography is difficult for me. I’ve tried to learn the basics before (by the lovely and patient Sally Crane Photography) but I never got to grips with it properly and I end up taking random shots, fiddling about with dials in the hope that one photo would be worthy to showcase my work.

I realised this wasn’t the way to continue, so booked myself on the course, joined by Rachael from Marry Me Ink, Colette from All Wrapped Up Events, Kelly from Boho Weddings & Events, Anna from Far From The Wedding Crowd and Natalie from I Am Nat.

Concentrating intently, we picked up hints and tips as well as a thorough knowledge of what we needed to do in order to improve our photography skills. Jaye was a great teacher and I recommend her services to everyone not really getting to grips with their cameras – she’ll break things down for you and leave you trigger happy in no time!

Leafy Couture and Rowen & Wren were lovely enough to provide us with pretty props to photograph and the pretty tags were made by Natalie. So without further ado, here are a few of the photos I took. Hopefully, you’ll agree  I’ve improved a little 🙂

Supplier Spotlight: Starlet Jewellery

March 4, 2012

I love featuring quality suppliers whom I can fully recommend personally and I knew I had to get Starlet Jewellery on the blog for you all to ooooo and ahhhhh at!

I first came across their website around 2 1/2 years ago, prior to my own wedding but having already bought my bridal jewellery. The second I stumbled upon their page, I was struck by the glamour. I’m very choosy about my jewellery and they had oodles of styles I adored!

Image

In particular, I craved the ‘London’ earrings and I am now over the moon to report that I have a pair of my very own:

Image

If you’re looking for bridal jewellery, or if you want some costume jewellery for an event – take a look at their selection of pretties. They have a lovely little boutique in Devon or you can find a list of stockists on their website {here}.

Image

If you’re on a budget, they also have an outlet store on Etsy where you can pick up some of these gorgeous pieces at discounted prices. They are ex-display or samples used on photo shoots and well worth a peek!

Image

My London earrings have certainly added a touch of glamour to working in the studio and I have been typing away wearing them and feeling very chic indeed 🙂

I also have hankerings for the rather gorgeous, Hollywood Starlet range, Regency and Bardot collections! Which are your favourites?
